Hughes Foundation began a partnership with our friends in Namibia in 2006.  In just this short time, Jerry has brought hope to millions of homes through the airwaves on radio stations with this message of hope.  He has also started partnerships with the Venancius Rukero AIDS Orphanage, where 33 children receive after-school education at the “Jerry Hughes After-School Program” for children who might otherwise end up on the street.

In 2007, our accomplishments in Namibia include the following:

• Returned to NBC Radio and added HIV/AIDS interviews on Channel 7 and two Youth Radio Stations. Jerry was interviewed and reached into millions of homes throughout Namibia with his encouraging message.
• Invited to speak at National Namibian World AIDS Day event at soccer stadium in Windhoek.
• Built relationships with staff and AIDS orphans at the Venancius Rukero AIDS Orphanage, which is one of our partners by leading and counseling with HIV/AIDS education. In addition, visited the “Jerry Hughes After School Program,” which is where 33 orphans receive after-school education weekly.
• Started a new partnership with the Ministry of Health at the local hospital. Supported 11 HIV+ volunteers who support and encourage thousands of infected patients waiting for their daily medications.

In 2008, our initiatives in Namibia include the following:

• Develop more tangible impact for HIV+ orphans through the development of strategy to assist in better nutrition, medical needs and education.
• Build on partnership with Ministry of Health at local hospital to support HIV+ volunteers – develop a program that will not only keep them healthy but also recruit more HIV+ volunteers.
• Develop multimedia educational tools in native language for year-round HIV/AIDS education.
• Work with Council of Churches in Windhoek for a World AIDS Day event.
